the torch

hi everyone. i'm sitting alone in the hospital with dad. i just read him your posts, with quivering voice and teary eyes. he's so deep in sleep i doubt he heard, but one never knows. today he opened his eyes, but the light was gone out of them. the light is gone. but not the torch.

dad was a man with passion and zeal. he knew what he wanted. he went after his dreams. he took risks and they paid off.

his passion was to get the gospel of Christ to everyone. to share the story of redemption. to defend the diety of christ. to shoot holes in evolution and lay sound arguments for creation. he also had passion to help the families, support missionaries and give to the poor.

on top of all that, he created a wonderful legacy for us. he created an environment for us to grow together as a family by sponsoring all those reunions. he gave us countless opportunities to fellowship over meals, fishing trips, root beer floats, apple fritters, the circus, and so much more.
would we even know each other if it weren't for him?

he valued the eternal. he enjoyed the temporal. he set the bar and carried the torch. and now he's passing it on.

the best way we can honor him is to continue the work - sharing the gospel. proclaiming the truth of God's word. defending the faith. loving and caring for our families. and financially providing for God's servants to do his work.

the song that i pick for Dad is this:

"tell me the story of Jesus,
write on my heart every word,
tell me the story most precious,
sweetest that ever was heard"

Jesus made a profound difference in Dad's life.
Jesus has made a profound difference in all of our lives.
what a wonderful blessing of faith and hope has been poured out
upon our family.

my torch is lit. there is light in my eyes. the work goes on.

til we all get to heaven.
amen and amen.

i love you dad. thank you from the bottom of my heart.
