Christmas Memories

This Christmas season I have thought a lot about those amazing Christmases in Memaw and PawPaws basement. I remember seeing what felt like 500 presents spanning from wall to wall! And I remember thanking them both after opening and PawPaw never knowing what exactly we got. I also remember him getting very excited about finding Andes mints in his stocking and passing them around for all to see! I remember his whoops and yelps and his tickles that HURT!!! (almost as much as the back slaps). I wish this year I could go back to being little and to sit in my Pawpaws lap again and have him tickle me so bad it hurts. To ask me when I was ever gonna like hugging ,and ask me what am I gonna do when I am older and my husband wants a hug. For him to ask me what exactly was that christmas present they gave me? I don't have any particular memories with only me and Pawpaw...but do any of you have any special christmas memories with him?
I think one thing that has brought these memories on is seeing  Dustin Hoffman out there promoting his new movie. I have always thought that Pawpaw looked like Dustin...and seeing him on tv so much lately makes me think of my Pawpy.
Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas!!!

I too have been thinking of him a lot lately. I miss him. Thanksgiving was hard without him and now Christmas is almost here and like Amy I too have memories flooding in. I think it is mostly due to me having my own family now and trying to set traditions with them reminds me of all the traditions we had as children. I miss my paw paw. He was so fun to be around. I miss Harold to. As obnoxious as he was, he always gave me a good hearty laugh! I wonder how they are celebrating Jesus right now? I know they are having the time of their lives. I bet Paw Paw is planting all kinds of things at all of our mansions. And Harold is still trying to decide what he really wants to do!! Jk. He is probably helping build the mansions and probably making it a bigger project than it really needs to be! I can't wait to hug them one day. I love those two.

-We would stir Papaw up to play parcheesi

-Papaw would play parcheesi loud and WITHOUT mercy

Joanna, your post was hilarious. Those steak biscuits had to be the lowest grade meat available at Food World. Did anyone else strain their jaw muscle trying to rip that meat apart?

i did, jon. in fact i sorta dreaded the steak biscuits because they were so hard to chew!!!

oh those steak and biscuits. they were so awful. one, we weren't hungry. two, that was NOT meat, it was more like leather. three, we had to eat fast because it was at the end of the day and mee maw was ready for us all to go home. four, she fussed at ralph the whole time he was cooking the leather. this is a tradition i can live without!

One thing PawPaw love to do at Christmas was watch the movie "A Matter of Principle". I loved watching it with him. I'll always think of him when I watch it.

About those biscuits, I tried to get that tradition dropped one year and just about got disowned. Oh well, I decided not to carry that one on in my own family.

What most of you don't know is how it got started. There was a Restaurant called Irelands that made steak biscuits that were delicious. I can remember going there with Elaine and Ron and Mom and Dad long long ago. I guess we liked them so much we decided to try to replicate it. Didn't work.

Sharon, that is so funny! "didn't work"
I would agree. I thought I was the only one who wasn't quite fond of them. Now the truth comes out!
